the project
The Luigi Sturzo Institute is leading the project “E.M.E.R.G.E. European Mobility to Reduce the Ground of Exclusion” funded under the “Europe for citizens” Programme, in a partnership with FCASEC (Romania) and ESA (Bulgaria).
The objective of the project is to activate the European citizenship on the themes of poverty and social exclusion (European year 2010) through an innovative (blended mentoring) methodology of exchange with NGOs active in countries that only recently joined the EU. The Institute is working as tutor in situ and at distance for actions of search and analysis on the European electoral campaigns and on the legislative activity of the European Parliament, in relationship to themes such as unemployment, immigration, extreme poverties, new poverties, youth, elderly people.
The scheduled activities are:
- creation of 3 study groups (Italian, Romanian and Bulgarian) composed by 6 researchers each, that will analyze the documents related to the European electoral campaigns as well as the legislative activity of the European Parliament in relation to the themes of the project from a historical, social, institutional and communicative point of view (top-down approach);
- activation of a network of NGOs and schools in every country to organise focus groups that will orientate the research progress through a series of inputs coming from bodies directly involved in the contrast to the poverty (bottom-up approach);
- organization of an intensive session of research with the participation of the 18 Italian, Bulgarian and Romanian researchers. Activities will concentrate on the transfer of methodologies for the analysis of historical sources and on the knowledge exchange. The session will lead to the production of an e-journal that will collect the contributions made by all the researchers and it will represent the model for a series of monthly e-news to be realized during the project and sent to the networks of NGOs and schools;
- final publication of the "Guidelines for the European elections 2014 to be disseminated to EU institutions, with a public presentation in a conclusive conference.
